Clinical Lead, Surgical Specialties, LCRN North East & North Cumbria. Expertise with surgical implants and devices related to trauma & orthopaedic surgery.
Clinical academic and NHS consultant with extensive clinical and research experience of over 15 years in trauma & orthopaedic surgery. Broad experience with use of surgical implants and devices for musculoskeletal conditions, including their clinical testing, evaluation and reporting of performance.
Areas of expertise:
Chief Investigator for large UK wide multi-centre and multi-national clinical trials in trauma & orthopaedic surgery, with experience in design, conduct, analysis and reporting of such trials. Most current grants held with the UK National Institute for Health Research (NIHR).
Chairman, research committee of the British Orthopaedic Association, with established network of research active hospitals and Principal Investigators across the UK.
Surgical Specialty Lead for trauma & orthopaedic surgery at the Royal College of Surgeons of England’s clinical research initiative and the Technology Access Pathway.
As Faculty and Investigator, experience with peer review of grant applications for the NIHR.
Recent Successful collaborations with Industry/SME’s:
- Chief Investigator for VERiTAS – study funded by the Academic Health Science Network for North East & North Cumbria, in collaboration with Hart Biologicals
- Led and recently reported a Europe wide post marketing surveillance study of a shoulder replacement implant, in collaboration with Zimmer clinical affairs
- Grant applications currently in place for medical devices for ankle swelling management after fractures and for peri-operative pain relief in hip fractures
